Residence permit extension application.
An extension is not a repeat of the first application; updating documents and the timing rules need separate attention.
The timing rule
An extension application must be made from sixty days before the residence permit expires and in any case before the permit expires. The application is started online; the application receipt issued afterwards allows legal stay in Türkiye until a decision is made.
What needs updating for an extension
- Passport validity (must cover the requested permit duration)
- Health insurance covering the new period
- Address and accommodation documents in line with current rules
- Documents showing the purpose of stay continues (if the purpose has changed, a transfer application applies)
Change of purpose and transfers
A foreign national whose purpose of stay has changed must apply to transfer to the residence type matching the new purpose instead of extending the current permit. For example, a student who has finished their studies transferring to a post-graduation short-term permit is a separate application.
