After Applying

You've applied; so what happens now?

The period between application and card raises the most questions: what is your legal status, can you travel, how long does it take?

The ninety-day review

As a rule, residence permit applications are decided within ninety days at the latest, provided the information and documents are complete. If missing documents are requested, the period restarts once the gap is filled. You can track your application status through the e-İkamet system.

What does the application receipt provide?

The application receipt (müracaat belgesi) issued when your application is accepted allows legal stay in Türkiye until the application is decided. Keep the receipt and your fee payment receipts throughout the process.

Can I travel abroad during this process?

In practice, trips abroad not exceeding fifteen days during the review period are permitted with the application receipt and fee receipts. As this practice can change from time to time, it is advisable to confirm the current situation with the provincial migration office before planning travel.

After your card is approved

  • The residence permit card is sent to your address by PTT (Turkish Post); the shipment can be tracked with the barcode number.
  • Check that the details on the card (name, dates, permit type and duration) are correct on delivery.
  • Note the extension window (sixty days before expiry) in your calendar now.
