Transfer Applications
Your purpose of stay has changed: the transfer application.
When a foreign national's life plans in Türkiye change, the permit should change too; using the current permit for a different purpose creates a risk of refusal at extension.
When is a transfer needed?
- A foreign national who buys property while on a tourist residence permit converting the purpose of stay to the property-based type,
- A student who completes their studies transferring to a short-term permit (once only, within six months of graduation),
- A foreign national who marries transferring to a family residence permit,
- A foreign national who finds a job moving to the work permit process (as a rule, a work permit also replaces the residence permit).
How is it done?
- Documents supporting the new purpose of stay are prepared (title deed, marriage record, employment contract, diploma, etc.).
- A transfer application is created on e-İkamet; applying before the current permit expires is essential.
- The appointment and document submission are completed according to the provincial migration office's procedure; during the process, the application receipt provides legal stay.
Requesting the wrong type of extension — for example, asking for a tourist extension while actually living in Türkiye for family reasons — is a common mistake that leads to refusal; the type must match the real purpose of stay.
Let's determine the right type for your new purpose.
